Wednesday lunchtime pop-up ramen at Rose’s Meat Market and Sweet Shop
Pop up ramen!! Rose’s serves one type of ramen once a week on Wednesdays starting at 11 am and goes until 2 or until they sell out, whichever comes first! They also serve sweets (as the name would imply) and meat (as the name would imply) this is a great combination in my book. They also sell seasonal sausage rolls which make me think of home and everything I love. Maybe someday the three of us will copy them and open a place just like this.
Ramen changes seasonally every week or month or so, when we went we had a bowl with lamb, spigarello, green onion and soft cooked egg but other bowls have included Chicken Chashu, Cheese, and Squash Blossom Butter (dam) for the start of fall or cold soy ramen with ham, tomatoes, corn and chilli oil for summer or tomato ramen with fried okra, soft cooked egg and pork jowl.
Because it’s made by a meat market, they actually have the bones and scraps necessary to make a properly flavorful broth.
Did I mention you can get pastries while you wait for your ramen??
Reast: This shop has a special place in my heart as it rose me from the dead post the hardest exam of my life. If you notice in these photos my eyes are closed, and it’s not from how bright it is or how much I slept that night (cough, cough — its because I cried a lot the night before).
Keast: I think this is the best ramen you can get in Durham!
Pros: Good ramen in Durham!! Broth made with bones from a meat market!! Yummy treats while you wait!!
Cons: There isn’t really anywhere to sit so you kind of eat on the curb, I don’t really consider this all that much of a con because that’s fun but it does mean that sometimes you spill some of the broth on yourself because ramen is hard to eat and I prefer ramen in my belly rather than on my dress/the ground, they only have red chilli flakes for adding spice and you have to ask for them and they only put on a little bit
